First impressions mean a lot! When we first walked into this place we thought that the stone yard had misplaced a pallet of field stone and it was here in their living room.
Task: add 3.5 ft in length to space(60sqft), deliver more view & modernize
Team: Joan, Rom and 1 helper
Materials: existing fireplace, reclaimed window, scrap barn wood, remnant bed pieces & caulk
Weather is always an issue when creating openings to the exterior of a home that will not be completed in a day. Rom works fast!!! 3 days from start to finish is an amazing achievement. Rom found this window at a job site. It was being discarded along with 10 others, it was the perfect size for this job. Just needed to be painted to match the existing windows.
New Window Cost: $2500 plus tax, delivery, install, painting
Our Fee:Priceless plus a view!
With the help of myself and another on the inside, Rom managed to pulley this large window into place with about one hoist.
once the size is taped off then the hole can be cut through the sheet rock. Remove the sheet rock & insulation to expose the plywood that will be cut. Create the window opening a little larger than the actual window size.

The flooring was another part of this job for us. We decided to replace the inset carpeting with the existing tiles to expand the look of the room and make space appear larger.
After searching all through America I finally found the last remaining pallet of this tile (it had been discontinued, of course) in UTAH. We accomplish what we wanted to in creating the appearance of a larger space & saving $$$$ by not replacing it all.

The surround was fabricated meticulously by Rom out of pieces of an old Middle Eastern door that I had purchased long ago and never had the opportunity to use in a any of my jobs. He had a great idea, and with the sealed gas fireplace it was not a problem to have this rustic wood surround. Barn wood that we had collected helped bring the piece together and an old weathered piece of oak made the perfect slender mantle. Rich & Rustic!
