Roughing it once in a while is a fantastic way to learn to appreciate what we have. Rom and I have discovered a place that lets you rough it with some of the comforts of home. Red Cone Retreat lets us feel as if we are really making due with what the land has to offer--only this land has everything you need to have a relaxing stay.
Surprisingly there are many tipi camping places in the U.S. and around the world.Links are included on this page to some I found while searching the web--from rough to rich.

Present----the only state of being that actually exists. It is a second to second reality.
Present--is a gift.
Don’t waste it on the past or the future---but cherish the gift of the Present as a gift that has been handed to you that you have been wanting all your life.
Open each day by carefully unwrapping yourself out of the sheets, breathe deep in anticipation of what is behind the wrapping this day.
Smile at the thought of the mysteries to be revealed and savor each minute.
A target for ax throwing hangs amongst the pines at Red Cone. We all tried to practice our skills at this once necessary skill. It is a blessing that we are living in the times we do or none of us would have made it.
Red Cone Retreat in Norwood, CO offers a comfortable inexpensive way to experience off the grid living. We have visited several times and always have a great time. The tipis are set up in comfort camping style. With wood burning stoves, beds, linens and wood. Karen, the proprietor, has set up propane refrigeration, solar showers, large BBQ space and wood burning hot tub--that heats way beyond what is necessary.
The native American Indians had colorful ways to know whose tipi was whose. We had the Horse this time. The architecture of the entry door is beautiful in its simplicity.
The cook tent is a very important place to have when you tire of the smoke from the BBQ or fire pit or when the weather turns bad. This one is stocked to the hilt with a huge griddle/grill for large breakfasts.
The best of simply grilled food on a hot summer day was made easy with the pots, griddles and smoker from Red Cone Retreat--of course knowing how to marinate and grill the food always helps.
Karen’s horses are more like dogs than equine animals. The played with our nephew , Nicholas, as a pet would play. Chasing after him, teasing him and snuggling up for affection. They added a surprise and a touch of authenticity to the stay.
Waking up in the morning with the horses running through the fog and the smell of the embers from the fire alerted all the senses.
Distant hoots from owls and snapping twigs from deer or elk created quite the trip with the occasional growl of something that in our minds was a bear to add some excitement.
In ancient times hot springs must have supplied the hot water for Indians to soak in.
Now this wood burning hot tub gives guests a welcome reprise from a long day of hiking, horseback riding or simply living without the comforts of home.
Throw a few logs in the bin, light it and soon you have water hot enough to boil in.
A custom Totem Pole made by Rom Gemar from a previous tipi outing guards this tipi on a clients estate.
The Whimsical Wise Owl was created on the spot for a surprise home warming gift .
We can work with you in creating the original totem pole for your next family gathering or corporate event.

don’t litter--there was a great commercial with an American Indian riding on horseback through beautiful lands, along rivers and in mountains. As he rode he saw more and more litter throughout these places. At the end of the commercial we see a tear stream down his face. Very powerful image. Respect this U.S.A. and don’t litter
take a camera to capture
the beauty
Our custom TOTEM POLES are the perfect gift for someone who has everything.
Contact us with your wishes and we will create a one of a kind totem for you.
We have recently looked into getting a gas fired wood hot tub. After experiencing the one at Red Cone my research found the following links for gas and wood fired choices. http://snorkel.com http://www.cedartubs.com

If you love the image of wild horses running free across great open spaces or have ever ridden on a horse and felt that feeling of freedom as you galloped in tall grass then you must go to these websites, read and donate to save the great American legacy that is the Wild Horse.

Rom woke up in the middle of the night after hearing a mouse nibble on something by his head. We both grabbed the camera and snapped a shot of each other. It was very cold and the clothes plus the super duper sleeping bags were a must as the wood burning stoves were not set up yet.
If you want to get serious about ax throwing search online for the exact rules. There are several websites that are filled with historic information, sketches and rules. have fun and stand clear!
